Division II Talent Reminder

Demetre Roberts of Fairleigh Dickinson University is a talented 5-foot-8 point guard hailing from Mount Vernon, New York. Although he started his college basketball journey at Division II St. Thomas Aquinas out of Sparkill, New York, his success serves as a reminder to young, aspiring players that there is a wealth of talent at the Division II level.

It is crucial for high school players to understand that those who excel at the highest level of Division II are often capable of performing exceptionally well in low-level Division I competitions. In terms of skill, there is no discernible difference between the two levels of play. Only size and athleticism come into play when comparing the two, and even then, it does not always determine success.

The current NCAA tournament has showcased Division II players competing at the highest level against some of the best Division I athletes. It is clear that the prevailing notion that Division I is the only way to play high-level basketball is utterly absurd. If one possesses the ability to compete at a high level, their talent, basketball IQ, and ability to overcome obstacles will shine through. After all, the ultimate goal is to compete and demonstrate one’s abilities at their best.
