Assessing high school prospects is vital, as numerous talented players often go unnoticed. Sharing my personal observations of these players allows me to establish a benchmark for assessment. That’s why I strive to attend as many high-level events as I can.
Recently, I had the chance to observe Dante Steward, a 6’5 175 pound prospect from Liberty High in Henderson Nevada, who displayed several noteworthy qualities:

- While currently playing as a small forward in high school, Dante’s versatility suggests he could excel as a shooting guard in college, showcasing his adaptability on the court.
- Dante possesses decent ball-handling skills, but there’s room for improvement. Enhancing this aspect of his game could make him a more well-rounded player.
- He stands out due to his athleticism, size, and strength, making him an undervalued two-way player – excelling both offensively and defensively.
- Despite his youth, Dante exhibits significant potential, with the right guidance and development, he has a bright future in basketball.
- Dante’s determination and tenacity set him apart. He consistently plays with intensity, driving himself to excel.
- His work ethic and no-excuses attitude make him a potential team leader, as noted by his head coach, Kevin Soares of Liberty High.
In summary, Dante Steward shows promise in three-point shooting and driving to the basket, maintaining composure even under defensive pressure. While there’s room for improvement in lateral movement and mobility, his effective skills at the high school level make him a reliable defensive player, and an outside shooter. With continued practice, he could enhance all areas of his skill set.
